Several indicted for federal drug trafficking

On Behalf of | Aug 29, 2016 | Federal Drug Trafficking

Much like similar incidents in the state of Florida, law enforcement efforts have led to the arrests of at least seven people. Allegations of federal drug trafficking were a central concern of the recent investigation. Each of the persons who were taken into custody will now face the individual charges against themselves.

Federal, local and state authorities are said to have acted together to make the recent arrests. A federal grand jury indicted the seven defendants for their alleged conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Undercover investigators say that they obtained more than a kilo of the drug. Reportedly, this was accomplished through a number of controlled purchases during their lengthy investigation.

The indictment was returned and unsealed in Texas. If the federal court hands down convictions, each of those charged will face up to two decades behind bars. All seven accused are currently being held in custody.

A U.S. Magistrate is scheduled to preside over detention hearings in the near future for the seven people accused in this federal drug trafficking case. The defendants range in age from 19 to 28. Merely being accused of a crime, whether in Florida or at the federal level, does not necessarily mean a conviction will be handed down in court; every defendant is entitled to seek skilled, experienced defense assistance before appearing in court. In fact, many turn to defense attorneys for assistance even before there have been arrests. In doing so, they are often able to begin building strong defenses during investigations, should such be needed further down the line.
