Sometimes, a person in Florida or elsewhere might make choices that result in being charged with a crime. In a recent incident that took place outside a federal courthouse in another state, a man has been charged with several offenses, including federal drug trafficking. The incident took place at approximately 8:20 a.m. on a recent Thursday morning.
The 23-year-old man in question is said to have fired a weapon in front of the courthouse. Authorities say this led to him being charged as a felon in possession of a firearm. Officials have also stated that the man discharged the gun during an apparent drug-related crime. He is also accused of being in possession of marijuana and intending to distribute it.
Law enforcement agents say they located the man at a nearby park after the shots were fired. Responding officers claim that they uncovered a loaded gun in the man’s pants pocket. They also said that they found more than 100 bags of marijuana on his person.
If convicted, the man in this case could face very severe penalties that could result in incarceration for the rest of his life. Federal drug trafficking is considered a serious offense in Florida and throughout the United States. However, being accused of such acts does not constitute guilt, and a person retains the right to seek legal guidance after being arrested or charged with a crime. An accused individual is presumed innocent, unless proved otherwise by competent evidence in court. Therefore, it is typically prudent to act under the guidance of an experienced criminal lawyer in order to determine what options are available and to ensure that one’s rights are protected.
