A drive of just an hour and a half north of Miami will land you in Palm Beach. The town famous for its resorts, luxury homes and celebrity residents recently made the news when a pair of men there were arrested on federal drug charges.

The men are accused of importing, manufacturing and distributing a variety of illegal substances.

The men, 34- and 35-years old, are accused of using importing substances from China (fentanyl, alprazolam, GBL and steroids) and then using presses to manufacture tablets that would “mimic the likeness of pharmaceutical opioids,” a federal prosecutor stated in an indictment.

They were charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy to import a controlled substance into the U.S.

Federal law enforcement officials said they learned of the pair’s involvement after they raided a married couple’s home in June of last year. The husband fled to Brazil and cannot be extradited. His wife was sentenced in January to two and a half years in prison.

According to a news report, she gave federal prosecutors information about her husband and the two men recently arrested.

When she and her husband were arrested, officials said they found in their home $400,000 in cash, guns, 229 grams of fentanyl and more than 500 grams of alprazolam powder.
