Task force conducts federal drug trafficking raid, four arrested

Nearly every day, news regarding drug investigations circulates throughout the nation. Being charged with federal drug trafficking in Florida or another state is a serious matter that tends to be prosecuted quite aggressively. A recent investigation included a raid that resulted in four arrests.

A joint task force was assigned to the case for the purpose of investigating suspected unlawful drug activity in another state. Law enforcement agents say the situation involved large amounts of crystal methamphetamine and marijuana. The main force behind the operation was an independent investigative team set up in 2010.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, a sheriff’s office and several local police departments in Texas assisted in the effort. Officials say they seized more than six pounds of drugs that would be worth more than $90,000 on the street. By the time the raid was complete, a 35-year-old man and three others, ages 36, 37 and 46, were arrested and taken into federal custody.

At least one of the four has been formally charged in the recent federal drug trafficking situation. It is not uncommon for similar incidents to occur in Florida. Because those convicted may face very lengthy prison terms and substantial monetary fines, it is advisable for anyone charged to retain assistance from a seasoned criminal attorney who has successfully gone to battle at the federal level in other situations. The variances between state and federal laws often create differences in how cases are tried. This is one of many reasons why it may prove beneficial to work with an attorney who understands the federal prosecution process.
