Facing federal tax charges in Florida or any other state is obviously a very serious matter. A legal representative of former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky was recently faced with such issues and has reportedly entered a guilty plea in court. The incident stems from a tax evasion situation that is said to have occurred over the span of four years.

The man was accused of failing to file federal tax returns from 2006 through 2010. A federal judge apparently accepted his plea of guilt on a recent Thursday. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled. However, in light of the charges to which he pleaded guilty, the man now stands to face as many as six years behind bars.

The man also pleaded guilty in March 2016 to stealing almost $800,000 from client funds. He appears to have spent the money on gambling expeditions and other personal interests. A sentencing hearing for that situation is to be held in August.

Prosecution of federal tax evasion charges tends to be very aggressive. It is often crucial to retain experienced guidance from an attorney who has defended other high profile cases in order to increase one’s chances of obtaining a positive outcome in court. Although it is not always possible to avoid incarceration in such circumstances, a seasoned attorney often knows how to help minimize the negative impact a high-level situation may have on one’s future. Any Florida resident who becomes aware of being suspect in a federal investigation may request consultation with an attorney to begin building a strong defense should charges be filed at some point.
