Federal drug trafficking charges in Florida may impede a career

A 40-year-old Florida man from Brevard County is currently facing accusations of drug crimes. The high school football coach has been accused of federal drug trafficking, including allegations of possession with intent to distribute. Few details of the charges were provided in a media report announcing the arrest.

The high school football coach was released from a county jail on a recent Wednesday. Charges against him include accusations of drug distribution. He was apparently also denied a teaching certificate in 2014.

The Florida Board of Education apparently found the teacher/coach lacking appropriate moral character for a teaching certificate after several prior arrests and a conviction in 2000 for resisting an officer. The denial, however, was overturned in 2015 by the Florida Education Practices Commission. The coach had apparently requested an informal hearing with the commission to present testimony and evidence in his favor.

The exact nature of the testimony and evidence submitted by the coach was not shared publicly. However, at the conclusion of the hearing, he was allowed to apply for his teaching certificate, although a letter of reprimand by the commission was placed in his personal file. When facing federal drug trafficking charges, seeking guidance from a criminal attorney who has been successful in representing others in high profile situations is often beneficial, particularly since the consequences of a conviction are often severe. Building a strong defense and discussing ways to combat various federal prosecution tactics and strategies are some of the ways in which an experienced criminal defense attorney can be of assistance in such situations.
