Authorities say that a vehicle contained a highly advanced hydraulic compartment that was hidden from view and used to transport drugs. The 55-year-old driver of the vehicle was placed under arrest after a recent trip to Florida. He was charged in connection with alleged federal drug trafficking activities.
The man has reportedly pleaded guilty to the charges against him. He is also said to have admitted to carrying a firearm while transporting drugs. It appears that federal, state and local authorities joined forces to apprehend the man after his recent travels to the sunshine state.
Upon returning to New England, he was taken into federal custody after authorities surrounded a hotel where he stopped. Agents also conducted a search of storage units that the man allegedly rented and claim to have uncovered more than 900 grams of cocaine. Police from several departments say that they noticed that the man had been traveling once a month in order to get drugs and bring them back into Rhode Island to be distributed.
Officers also claim that they found marijuana and a semi-automatic weapon inside the sophisticated, hidden compartment in the man’s car. Other incriminating items were reportedly found at his place of residence. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 2016. Federal drug trafficking is a serious offense.
