Authorities hope federal drug trafficking suspects will help them

When a person faces criminal charges in a Florida court, the penalties incurred for conviction vary according to particular circumstances and laws associated with such situations. It also matters greatly whether charges were brought at state or federal levels. In a recent situation, a man and woman were charged with federal drug trafficking. Authorities have stated they hope the suspects will now aid them in further investigations.

The man and woman are both currently being held in jail on suspicion of selling carfentanil, a drug known to be at least 10,000 times more potent than morphine. A DEA agent said news of the couple's arrest has spread quickly. He also stated that federal conviction of such crimes can lead to life in prison.

Law enforcement agents say they have noticed that many drug dealers are refusing to sell drugs like heroin and carfentanil because potential penalties under conviction are so severe. Authorities have also said they believe that many hard drugs such as carfentanil are being manufactured in China, then trafficked through Mexico and into the United States. One agent said they are constantly searching for evidence from which they can draw DNA samples to help identify possible suspects.

With regard to the man and woman recently taken into custody for federal drug trafficking, authorities say they hope the two will provide information that leads them to others higher up in the drug distribution chain. Both suspects, just as any person in Florida similarly charged, are able to fight against all charges in court by acting alongside criminal defense guidance. In fact, any person charged with a drug-related crime is advised to request a meeting with an attorney as soon as an arrest has been made.
