When law enforcement agents suspect illegal drug activity in a particular area, they often conduct an undercover, long-term investigation. Many times, such investigations in Florida may last weeks or even longer. If, at some point, charges are filed for federal drug trafficking or other crimes, those involved may face serious legal challenges that are often difficult to face without legal guidance.
Police took part in a recent month-long investigation that led to 13 arrests and warrants in the Boynton Beach area. Reportedly, there is a significant heroin problem in this particular region. Undercover agents are said to have set up controlled buying situations, using secret sources to purchase various drugs, including marijuana, cocaine and heroin. The alleged drug purchases took place outside Walmart, Chic-fil-A and other local business establishments.
Ten of the 13 people now suspected of crimes were booked into jail in Palm Beach County. One of the persons detained on suspicion of heroin sales was a 17-year-old individual. Five of those being held in jail have apparently already spent time in prison for other drug convictions. When police concluded the recent investigation, they claim to have seized more than $4,000 in cash, a firearm and eight vehicles. They also say the seizure included more than 234 total grams of various types of drugs.
Since January, there have been approximately 95 reported drug overdoses in this Florida locality. Facing federal drug trafficking charges in such situations places a lot at stake for any defendant.
